Exploring a new city is always exciting but it helps to have a few restaurant choices in your back pocket. Let me share a few of my favourites in Havana:
1. Doña Eutimia
Hidden in Old Havana, Doña Eutimia is a paladar which pays tribute to the restaurant’s namesake. In the 1970s artists would often gather at Doña Eutimia’s home to have lunch and exchange ideas. Today the restaurant serves traditional flavourful unpretentious Cuban dishes in it’s cosy art-adorned setting. Ask for a table up the spiral staircase for the most intimate environment.

2. Casa Miglis
A rather unlikely Swedish-Cuban fusion that comes out magically. It is owned by the Swedish cinematographer Michel Miglis and the Scandinavian touches are clearly evident in the white washed interiors and divine meatballs. This doesn’t take away from your Cuban experience as one can also explore contemporary takes on delicious Cuban fish dishes and desserts. Make sure you checkout the floating chairs at the bar.

3. El Floridita
One of Ernest Hemingway’s favourite haunts during his time in Havana, El Floridita caters for tourists and locals alike. The dining room is traditional with its leather bound menus, suited staff and starched white table linen. The real charm is in the bar where you’ll find live music, an impressive cigar selection and the original El Papa Doble or Hemingway Daiquiri – perfect literary inspiration!

4. Hotel Saratoga
For when you’re feeling a little Yoncé head over to the Hotel Saratoga where her and Jay-Z celebrated their wedding anniversary in 2013. The lobby bar is a colourful delight but the real charm is alongside the rooftop pool where you can enjoy a daiquiri – or three – while enjoying views of El Capitolio and central Havana.
