Set up on a rooftop in the Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Cau Go Restaurant overlooks Hoàn Kiếm Lake. It serves local Vietnamese cuisine but not in the simple eat-on-the-pavement style that you’ll find spread along the busy street below (which it takes its name after). This is ‘elevated authenticity’ in both senses. Though the interiors are contemporary and thoughtfully decorated, a table on the terrace is a must!
Sometimes the amazing view or location of a restaurant can leave the food a bit sub par. Cau Go is not one of those places! The food was absolutely divine. Days later, I’m still thinking about those coconut braised prawns and the little mountain of scallops and asparagus we demolished. Everything was so fresh and flavourful. It is presented in an inviting family style.
The staff were well-trained and helpful in their recommendations. It is also worth noting that they spoke great English which is something which can be tricky to find elsewhere.
I’m hoping to eat here again when I’m next in Hanoi, next time I’d like to go at night and see the lights twinkling around the lake.
I wouldn’t eat anywhere else…
I’m Just Not That Way.
